Basics

Green Men, Grey Tanks is a tactical hex-based game. Control your units, capture flags, and outwit your opponent.

Movement

Select a unit to see its range. Click a highlighted hex to move. Terrain affects speed.

Combat

Select adjacent units and click an enemy to attack. Combat depends on odds and a dice roll (d6).

Zone of Control (ZOC)

Every unit exerts a ZOC over its six adjacent hexes. ZOC represents the area the unit can influence with its fire.

  • Movement: Entering an enemy ZOC hex ends the unit's movement immediately. You can move out of a ZOC, or from one ZOC into another, but the unit must always stop in the new ZOC hex.
  • Rivers: ZOC does not extend across river edges. You can move freely next to an enemy if there is a river between you.

Supply

Units need a supply line to their side's supply sources (marked with dashed borders) to operate at full efficiency. Supply travels through roads or open terrain.

Blocking Supply: Supply lines are blocked by enemy units and their ZOC. However, a friendly unit occupying a hex negates the enemy ZOC for supply purposes in that hex.

Out of Supply (OoS) Effects:

  • Combat: Both Attack and Defense strengths are reduced by 1/3 (multiplied by 2/3).
  • Movement: Heavy units (Tanks) have their movement range reduced by 1/3. Infantry movement is unaffected.

*Roads reduce movement cost to 0.5 points. Crossing a river edge costs an extra +1 point. Attacking across a river reduces attacker strength by 1/3.
